2009 Ball

CIKA is committed to providing funding for research into solid tumours

2009 Ball - Cancer in Kids @ RCH - CIKA

The 2009 Blue and Orange Ball, held at the Sebel Hotel on 22 August was a great success. It is a tribute to the hard work of CIKA President, Sandra Lehrer, Vice President, Ellen Webb, and the dedicated committee that the event raised around $83,000 in these difficult economic conditions.

CIKA thanks Happy Medium for supplying most of the following photographs.

The Sebel ballroom looked spectacular in blue and orange.

CIKA is very grateful for the help of so many volunteers who gave their time
to make the evening such a success. Here are some of them.

Nat and Bec from year 11 at Methodist
Ladies' College worked hard
to help set up the venue.

Kathleen and Madeline Webb were there
all day to help as well.

Lyn, Jill, Denise, Lee and Pat
ready to start selling.

Leah and Fred pose with their raffle tickets.
They're not lollies, they're raffle tickets!

Gary, Jill and Val pose in front of the
Blue and Orange banners.

Blue and Orange ribbons ready to be
pinned by Yelena and Marika.

Rose and Naida continue the
Orange and Blue theme.

The evening would not have been the success that it was without the help of our generous supporters.

Our patron, Peter Mitchell (second from left) hosted the event. He is seen here with
Mario Spitiri, Gerald Meade and Matt Stirling, ...

...and here with Pam Phillips, a generous supporter over many years, and CIKA president,
Sandra Lehrer.

The silent auction raised over $20,000 all of which will go to funding research. A big thank-you to everyone who donated items for sale and helped to run the auction.

Rose and Jenny ready for the crowds to arrive...
... and here they are.

The guests enjoyed a fantastic evening of eating, drinking and merrymaking.

Dean, Diane, Bob, Cathy and David
enjoy the festive atmosphere.

Kylie, Jill, Anne-Marie and Committee
Member Colleen Clift.

CIKA relies on the hard work of its volunteers and the generosity of its suporters in its fund-raising efforts for the Children's Cancer Centre at the Royal Children's Hospital.

CIKA works to support the scientists whose research is targetted towards finding a cure for childhood cancer. We could not do this without the efforts of so many people who work so hard behind the scenes and those who are so generous in the donation of goods and services for sale.

The major fundraiser at the annual ball is the Grand Auction. This year's Grand Auction raised over $29,000. Because most of the items on sale were donated, this means that virtually all of the proceeds go directly to supporting this research.

John Carter, encouraged by
Peter Mitchell, keeps the bids
coming in at the 2008 Ball.
