MLC hospital visits

CIKA is committed to providing funding for research into solid tumours

MLC hospital visits - Cancer in Kids @ RCH - CIKA

"Young Entrepreneurs" is an annual initiative of a group of year nine students at Methodist Ladies' College in Kew. Every year since 2006 small groups of students have elected to raise money for CIKA by creating a small catering business. Meals that they cook in the Home Economics Department are available for purchase by staff during term four and over fourteen thousand dollars has been raised through their efforts to date.

In 2016, CIKA and the RCH were delighted to welcome the girls and their teacher, Debbie Hudson, on a tour of the research facilities that they are helping to support. The visit was repeated in 2017.

Here are some photographs of these visits.

2016
The visitors are seen here in the Hospital foyer on November 24 with (left to right) RCH Auxiliaries Manager Michelle Rule,
CIKA members Ruth Edelsten and Julie Casilli, Tumour Bank Coordinator Louise Ludlow and teacher Debbie Hudson.

The visit included a tour of the laboratories where Louise described the work that she is coordinating ...

...and answered questions.

Thank you certificates were distributed at the end of the visit.

2017
In October 2017 we welcomed sixteen students, along with their teacher Debbie Hudson, on a visit to the RCH. This has become an annual event. The morning started with a tour of the hospital followed by a welcome morning tea. The students were then presented with their certificates and badges in appreciation of their fundraising efforts for this term.

We then moved to the Children's Cancer Centre laboratories at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute where Dr Louise Ludlow took the students on a guided tour and explained how the money that they raise contributes to the research undertaken there.

The CIKA team appreciates the long and generous fundraising that has been undertaken by the students at MLC, a result of the input and support of the staff at the school.

The 2017 visitors arrived on October 24 and posed for this photograph outside the MCRI with (left to right) RCH tumour bank coordinator Louise Ludlow, Auxiliaries Manager Michelle Rule, teacher Debbie Hudson, RCH Auxiliaries Manager, Rebecca Hartford, and Shannon Corboy.
