Macedon Ranges 2016 Luncheons and Stall - Cancer in Kids @ RCH - CIKA

9 December 2016

The Macedon Ranges Focus Group used their annual Christmas luncheon for 74 supporters as the opportunity to present CIKA with a cheque for $10,000. CIKA is also most grateful to Gwen Kakafikas for her generous donation of $10,000 and to Ruth Edelsten and Lesley McKibbin for the $5,738 raised at their Gisborne weekend stalls and at Ruth's garage sale. Both of these donations were also presented during the afternoon.

Yes! That's a cheque.
The last six months have seen CIKA member Ruth Edelsten and Focus member Lesley McKibbin run monthly stalls at the Trentham market. They have developed many friendships with other stallholders over the time and were recently presented with a cheque for $500 from the members of the Trentham CWA. The CWA members who are also stall attendees were inspired by the dedication of the CIKA team and appreciate the research that is undertaken at the RCH. CIKA is most grateful for this generous donation.

The fourth Bendigo Cup-day Luncheon took place on Tuesday 6th September at the Bendigo Stadium and once again this event was a sell out with 156 attendees, attracting guests from Bendigo, Melbourne, Macedon, Sunbury and Heywood, and raising $5000 for the kids.

The theme for the day was a Fashion Parade with clothes supplied by
Marion & Me Fashions and hats by Bendigo Hat Shop along with lots of raffles and lucky spot prizes. Sala Rubinstein hosted her stall selling $800 worth of goodies

Many thanks to our M.C., Ian Nicholls from
KLFM Bendigo, guest speaker Mary McGowan from the RCH and Aggie Poliafico from the Bendigo Bank for giving their time to help out on the day.

A big thank you to Ruth, Sala and their team for the hard work that they put in to the organization of this event. Ruth has also recorded her gratitude to all the ladies who supported us on the day and help make it a better world for the kids.

Following a very successful stall at Gisborne on 1st May, the very energetic Lesley McKibbon held a luncheon for fifty at The Highlands Hotel in Cragieburn. It was great to see many new faces and all enjoyed a lovely morning tea and lunch, as well as raffles and terrific conversation. Over $1000.00 was raised on the day and CIKA says a very big "Thank you" to Lesley and those that helped to make it so much fun.

The shaker tin did the rounds as well.

Another successful event. The very energetic Macedon Ranges Focus Group members had a very successful stall at the Gisborne market on Sunday 1st May. Amongst the wide selection of goods sold, children's jumpers were particularly popular. The shaker tin was also put to good use. CIKA appreciates all the work that went into this fundraiser and our thanks go to Lesley, Ruth, Trish and Marie.

Dr Louise Ludlow was the guest speaker at The April Macedon Ranges Focus Group luncheon. Louise established and now manages the Children's Cancer Centre Tissue Bank and her talk centred around her background and the research she has undertaken at the Mudroch Children's Research Institute. Focus Group members are great believers in the work that CIKA funds and the enthusiasm produced by her talk was evident from the very lengthy question session that followed.

Also attending the luncheon at the Gisborne Golf Club were the President of Templestowe Auxiliary, Anne Peter-Budge, and her treasurer, Raelene Trotter, who, inspired by a talk given at a RCH auxiliary function by Professor Richard Saffery, presented a cheque for $23,000 to CIKA to contribute to the funding of the Tissue Bank. This is a wonderful collaboration between two auxiliaries.
